The Faculty of Technical Sciences (FTN) is the member of the University of Novi Sad that counts 14 faculties that typically hosts about 35,000 students, while the Department for Computing and Control Engineering hosts around 1,000 students. The Faculty of Technical Sciences is one of the leading technical faculties in Serbia, founded originally in 1974, comprises 11 Departments with 850 employees and hosts around 8.000 students. FTN is organized in 13 departments covering various fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, etc.

The Department for Computing and Control Engineering is comprised of three sub-departments: (i) The Sub-department for Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, (ii) The Sub-department for Applied Computer Science and Informatics and (iii) The Sub-department for Computer Communications and Computer Engineering (CCEC) . The research at the department is mainly directed to real-time systems, engineering of computer-based systems, signal processing, image and video processing, system programming and hardware design. At present, the CCEC employs 37 faculty staff, where 12 researchers are with PhD degree and 22 with MsC degree.

The Sub-department for Computer Communications and Computer Engineering (CCEC) is in its scientific research work focused on the fields of computer architecture and computer networks, real time programming, computer based systems, FPGA and DSP technologies, programme support in multimedia systems and cell phone industry and the programme support in audio and video signal processing.

There are more than 100 research projects supported by Serbian Ministry for Science and Technology and national as well as international industry. Some of them are/have been included in previous European research programs or are included into the running FP7 projects. FTN and start-up companies from its STP have cooperate with leading companies such as Siemens, Microsoft, CISCO, Intel, NEC, MICRONAS, Festo, etc.

The Department is well known for its international cooperation. First and foremost, the Department cooperates with universities from Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Great Britain and the USA. Apart from that, the Department cooperates with the most outstanding international companies: IBM, Intel, NEC, Quallcom, ABB, Cisco Systems, Allied Telesyn, Micronas, Philips, Cirrus Logic, Trident, Zoran, Schneider, Siemens, Danfoss and Feedback.
